How To Fix Windows 10 Settings Search Not Displaying Results

Have you ever tried to use Cortana to search for files or documents in your Windows 10 with results not displaying what you wanted?

If you have had to deal with this problem on your PC to search for files and documents then you will agree with me how frustrating it can be.

I have personally experienced this, so i know how frustrating and annoying this can be especially when a particular feature fails to live to expectations when you need it the most. There's nothing more frustrating than a convenient feature failing you when you need it most.

Fortunately, fixing this problem is simple and should only take a few minutes.

The steps and pictures below show how to fix the problem and re-index your search Settings folder:

1. Press the Windows key and R key simultaneously to open the Run window. Or type "Run" in Cortana and press enter.
or

2. Type %LocalAppData%\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpane\localstate into the open field.

3. Click OK

Alternatively, locate your C drive\users\yourcomputername\localappdata\packages\windows.immersivecontrolpane\localstate

Ensure that you have enabled show hidden files, folders, or drives in "folder and search options to have access to this folder because they were hidden by default. Please see image below:

4. Right-click the Indexed folder.

5. Click Properties.

6. Click Advanced.

7. Click the checkbox beside "allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" so that a check mark appears.

8. Click OK.

9. Click Apply.

10. Click OK. A window with a progress bar will pop up as the folder is indexed.

11. Click OK when the indexing progress is finished.
