Eid-al-Fitr 2016: Nigerian Government Extends Public Holiday


The Nigerian government has released the statement extending the Eid-al-Fitri holiday in the country by one day.

This is following the directive by the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, to the effect that the Ramadan fast was observed on (Tuesday) as a result of the non-sighting of the moon. The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July, 2016 as Public Holiday.

NSCIA Declares Wednesday Eid-al-Fitr Day in Nigeria


The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has declared Wednesday, July 6 2016 as Eid-al-Fitr day in Nigeria.

The Sultan of Sokoto and The President-General of the organisation, Sa’ad Abubakar made the announcement, said the new moon of Shawwal had not been sighted anywhere in Nigeria.

Flash Floods Killed at least 40 People in Pakistan



Not less than 43 people have been confirmed dead and several others missing as after heavy rain and flash floods hit Northern Pakistan close to the Afghan border.

The flash floods washed away a Mosque and 35 other buildings completely, the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority said.

Rescue efforts are currently ongoing at the various locations.

War on Street Hawking by The Lagos State Government



Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Nigeria has declared war on street hawking, trading and peddling and those that patronize them.

In an interview on TVC's morning program - YOUR VIEW, the governor said, if anyone is caught breaking the law, offenders will be fined Ninety Thousand Naira (N90,000=) or face a jail term of six months. This takes effect from 1st of July 2016. Buyers and sellers beware.
